“…some of my favorite times together are the times that things didn’t go so well...”
Like that one time we were on our way to Dairy Queen for Free Ice Cream Day and we popped not one —but TWO tires on the 5 minute drive there…
...Or that one time we went mini golfing where I hit that ball with everything in me, which somehow the ball ended up smacking you right on your shin bone (my aim could still use some work)...
Now our dead battery story can be added to this list. 📝
Flashback to 2015 when I called my mom to ask her to bring us some fix-a-flat that day at DQ.
I remember her asking me on the phone “How’s Lance? Is he upset?” I told her “Oh yeah, he’s fine. We’re just eating our ice cream.” ...since that day my mom and I have talked about that conversation more than a handful of times.
Later that day she told me “that really says a lot about his character” and to this day that couldn’t be more true. How he reacted in that situation demonstrated who he was deep down. That those are qualities I would want in my husband or in a father to our future babies one day 👶🏼
He wasn’t yelling or angry, he wasn’t mad, obviously he was bummed that we then had to spend our day and his money at Discount Tire…but who wouldn’t be?
You never know someone’s true colors until they’re faced with adversity. (i.e. having two popped tires on your brand new car as a 20 year old or having a dead battery leave you stranded the day before a big exam).
Time and time again he shows me his true colors and dang it every time it makes me love him more.
Not everyone has a spouse that supports them, laughs with them everyday AND makes them want to be a better person…let alone his good looks, intelligence and my entire family loving him, that’s just icing on the cake at this point.
Bad luck is bound to strike from time to time, but having someone there to lessen the suck? I wouldn’t trade that for the world.
